Sweet pickles are tangy and sweet, featuring a blend of vinegar, sugar, and spices. Perfect for relish trays, sandwiches, or as a flavorful snack accompaniment.

Ingredients

  • 7 lb. pickles
  • 1 pt. salt
  • 1 gal. water
  • 2 c. vinegar
  • grape leaves
  • 2 tsp. alum
  • 3 pt. vinegar
  • 3 lb. sugar

Instructions

  1. Soak the pickles in plain water for 3 days.
  2. Cut each pickle in half and place in a kettle, covering with cold water and 2 cups of vinegar.
  3. Heat the mixture for 2 hours with grape leaves and alum.
  4. Remove the pickles and place them in jars.
  5. Heat vinegar, sugar, whole allspice, and blade mace in a separate pot.
  6. Heat the vinegar mixture for 3 mornings.
  7. On the fourth morning, can the pickles.
