- Soak the pickles in plain water for 3 days.
- Cut each pickle in half and place in a kettle, covering with cold water and 2 cups of vinegar.
- Heat the mixture for 2 hours with grape leaves and alum.
- Remove the pickles and place them in jars.
- Heat vinegar, sugar, whole allspice, and blade mace in a separate pot.
- Heat the vinegar mixture for 3 mornings.
- On the fourth morning, can the pickles.
