Ingredients

  • 1 pkg dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 cup scalded milk
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 slightly beaten eggs
  • 1 tablespoon eggs (reserved from beaten eggs)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Put yeast in warm water; set aside.
  2. Combine milk, butter, and sugar in a large bowl and cool to lukewarm.
  3. Stir in eggs, vanilla, salt, and yeast mixture.
  4. Gradually add flour to the mixture.
  5. Cover and let stand until dough doubles in size, about 1 hour.
  6. Beat down the dough and let it rise for 45 minutes.
  7. Turn the dough into 2 greased bread pans and let rise for another 45 minutes.
  8. Brush the tops of the bread lightly with the remaining egg.
  9. Bake at 350°F for 25 to 30 minutes.
