Ingredients

  • 1 lb ham hocks or meaty ham bone
  • 1 (10 oz) package frozen chopped broccoli
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup half and half
  • 1 cup shredded process Swiss cheese

Instructions

  1. Cook ham hocks in water for 1 1/2 hours or until the meat is tender and falls off the bone.
  2. Drain the ham hocks, reserving 1 1/2 cups of broth.
  3. Let the ham cool, then dice and set aside.
  4. Add the frozen chopped broccoli to the broth and cook until tender.
  5. In a separate pot, whisk together water and flour until smooth.
  6. Gradually stir in milk and half and half, then cook until the mixture thickens.
  7. Add the diced ham and shredded Swiss cheese to the soup, stirring until cheese melts and the soup is heated through.
  8. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then serve hot.
