Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 2 packages active dry yeast
  • 1 1/4 cups condensed tomato soup
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1/4 cup taco sauce
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon minced onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. Grease the bottom and sides of a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large mixer bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups of flour, cornmeal, and yeast.
  3. In a medium saucepan, combine the condensed tomato soup, hot water, taco sauce (or taco seasoning and water), sugar, minced onion, and salt. Heat until warm.
  4. Add the warm mixture to the flour mixture in the bowl.
  5. Blend at low speed until moistened, then beat for 3 minutes at medium speed.
  6. Stir in chopped green chiles and remaining flour by hand.
  7. Knead on a floured surface until smooth.
  8. Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning greased side up.
  9. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 60 minutes.
  10. Punch the dough down and shape it into a loaf.
  11. Place the shaped dough into the greased loaf pan.
  12. Cover and let rise for 30 to 45 minutes.
  13. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 40 to 50 minutes until golden brown.
  14. Remove from pan and cool before slicing.
