Ingredients

  • 6 cups flour
  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 6 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 1/2 sticks margarine
  • 2 teaspoons anise flavoring
  • 6 eggs

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
  2. Mix the margarine and anise flavoring into the dry ingredients until well incorporated.
  3. Add the eggs and mix thoroughly to form a dough.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Take a small piece of dough (about 2 tablespoons) and roll it with the palm of your hand to form a long, pencil-shaped string.
  6. Take an end of the string and make a loose, single knot.
  7. Break the knot off the string.
  8. Place the knots about 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  9. Bake for 10 minutes or until the bottom of the cookies is light brown.
  10. Allow to cool before serving.
