Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. water
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 c. plain flour
  • 1/2 c. Crisco
  • 4 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 eggs

Instructions

  1. Combine water, Crisco, and butter in a pan; bring to a boil.
  2. Pour the boiling mixture over sugar and flour in a mixing bowl.
  3. Add buttermilk, eggs, soda, vanilla, and salt to the mixture.
  4. Mix until well combined.
  5. Pour the batter into a jelly roll pan.
  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes.
