Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 1/2 cup crisco oil
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 whole eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Sift together the sugar, flour, soda, and cinnamon and set aside.
  2. Put water, margarine, oil, and cocoa in a saucepan and mix well.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  4. Pour the hot mixture over the dry ingredients and mix well. Set aside.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla.
  6. Gradually add the buttermilk mixture to the chocolate mixture, stirring until combined.
  7. Pour the batter into a greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Frost the cake while warm, then cool and cut into squares.
