Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1/2 pound sweet chocolate, melted
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Cream butter; gradually add sugar and beat until well combined.
  2. Blend in egg yolk, vanilla, salt, and sifted flour until the mixture is smooth.
  3. Spread the batter in a greased 10 x 15 x 1-inch pan.
  4. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 20 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.
  5. If edges brown too quickly, turn the oven temperature down slightly.
  6. Remove from oven and spread the hot surface with melted chocolate.
  7. Sprinkle chopped nuts evenly over the melted chocolate.
  8. Allow to cool completely, then cut into small squares.
