Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 (12 oz.) can Carnation evaporated milk
  • 1 (14 oz.) can Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 5 egg whites
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
  2. Beat egg whites until frothy.
  3. Add sugar and continue to beat until stiff peaks form.
  4. Add egg yolks, one at a time, and incorporate well.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture, alternating with milk; beat until well combined.
  6. Add vanilla extract and mix thoroughly.
  7. Pour batter into three greased and floured 8-inch round layer pans.
  8. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for approximately 25 to 30 minutes or until a cake tester comes out clean.
  9. Allow cakes to cool; remove from pans and set aside.
  10. Do not wash the pans; keep them in use for the next step.
  11. Combine evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, and heavy whipping cream in a bowl.
  12. Place cooled cake layers back in their pans and pour one-third of the milk mixture onto each layer.
  13. Cover and refrigerate for 1 to 2 hours, ensuring all the milk is absorbed.
