Ingredients

  • 1/4 chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped green pepper
  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon Crisco
  • 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • dash of pepper
  • 1 box Jiffy cornbread mix (prepared according to box instructions)

Instructions

  1. Saute chopped onion, chopped green pepper, and ground beef in Crisco until lightly browned.
  2. Add tomato sauce, chili powder, salt, and pepper; let simmer while preparing the cornbread mixture.
  3. Pour the prepared cornbread batter over the hot meat mixture in the pan.
  4. Bake in a 6 x 10-inch pan at 375°F (190°C) for 20 to 25 minutes until golden and cooked through.
  5. Turn out the dish onto a platter upside down and serve.
