Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 unbeaten egg whites
  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 3/4 cups buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • egg yolks (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine shortening, sugar, and unbeaten egg whites and set aside.
  2. Combine flour, salt, and baking soda and set aside.
  3. Alternately mix all ingredients until well blended.
  4. Add egg yolks if desired.
  5. Pour batter into a greased cookie sheet and bake at 350°F for 20 minutes.
