Ingredients

  • 3 bacon strips
  • 2 lb venison, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 large onions
  • 3 1/2 cups water
  • 1 small can tomato sauce
  • 1 envelope dry onion soup mix
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 teaspoons Italian dressing
  • 7 medium carrots, cut up
  • 7 medium potatoes
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 4 stalks celery

Instructions

  1. In a Dutch oven, cook bacon until crisp; crumble and set aside.
  2. Cook venison and onions in the bacon drippings until browned.
  3. Add 3 cups water, tomato sauce, dry onion soup mix, bay leaf, and Italian dressing.
  4. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and cook for 1 1/2 hours or until meat is nearly tender.
  5. Add carrots, celery, and potatoes.
  6. Continue cooking for 45 minutes to 1 hour until vegetables are tender.
  7. Combine flour with 1/2 cup water, stir, and cook until thickened.
  8. Remove bay leaf from the stew.
  9. Add the crumbled bacon back into the stew.
