Ingredients

  • 2 to 4 lb. roasting meat (chuck, sirloin, wild deer, or bear)
  • 1/4 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 envelope Lipton original onion recipe soup mix
  • black pepper to taste
  • salt to taste
  • 3 cups water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Combine self-rising flour, Lipton onion soup mix, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt by shaking well in a brown paper bag, coating the inside as well.
  3. Lay a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish or roasting pan and distribute the flour mixture over the bottom inside the bag.
  4. Place the prepared, cleaned, and trimmed meat in the bag, turning to coat with the flour mixture.
  5. Hold the bag opening up from the pan and add water (use less water for smaller roasts).
  6. Tie and slit the top of the bag.
  7. Cook in the oven for 2 to 3 hours, until the meat is tender.
  8. Slice the roast and stir to make gravy before serving.
