Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 cup oil
  • 2 cups water

Instructions

  1. Sift all dry ingredients into an ungreased 9 x 13-inch cake pan.
  2. Make three holes in the dry mixture.
  3. Into one hole, pour vinegar; into the second hole, vanilla; and into the third hole, oil.
  4. Pour water over the entire mixture and mix with a wooden spoon until well blended.
  5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35 to 45 minutes.
  6. Check for doneness with a toothpick in the center of the cake.
