Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 10 cups thinly sliced, pared tart apples (Granny Smith)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 cups coarsely chopped nuts
  • 12 phyllo-pastry leaves
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. In a large bowl, toss sugar with flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Mix well to combine.
  4. Sprinkle lemon juice over sliced apples.
  5. Add apples and chopped nuts to the sugar mixture; toss gently to combine.
  6. Prepare the phyllo pastry leaves and layer them in a pie dish.
  7. Brush the phyllo layers with melted butter as you layer.
  8. Pour the apple and nut filling into the prepared phyllo crust.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven until golden and bubbly, about 45-50 minutes.
  10. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
