Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • 1 1/2 c. warm water
  • 4 Tbsp. honey
  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. butter or margarine
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 c. whole wheat or graham flour
  • 2 1/2 to 3 c. all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  2. Add 1 tablespoon honey and let set until foamy, 5 to 10 minutes.
  3. Scald milk and remove from heat; stir in remaining honey, salt, and butter.
  4. Cool to lukewarm.
  5. Add yeast mixture and beaten eggs to milk.
  6. Stir in 3 cups wheat or graham flour and enough all-purpose flour to make a medium stiff dough.
  7. On a lightly floured surface, knead dough about 10 minutes.
  8. Place in a well greased bowl; turn dough to coat surface.
  9. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 60 to 90 minutes.
  10. Punch down and turn out on a lightly floured surface.
  11. Divide dough in half.
  12. Place in well greased loaf pans.
  13. Let rise again, about 60 minutes.
  14. Bake in a 350°F oven for 45 minutes or until loaves test done.
  15. Remove from pans and cool.
