Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 packages yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Cook milk and cornmeal until thick.
  2. Add butter, sugar, and salt.
  3. Dissolve yeast in warm water and let stand for 20 minutes.
  4. Add beaten eggs and flour to the yeast mixture.
  5. Combine with the cornmeal mixture and add enough additional flour (3 to 3 1/2 cups) to make a soft dough.
  6. Knead on a floured board.
  7. Set covered in a warm place to rise until full size.
  8. Punch down and let rise again.
  9. Form into buns.
  10. Let rise, then bake at 350°F for 12 to 15 minutes.
