  • salt and pepper to taste

  4. Open bag and shake mixture into a lightly greased loaf pan.

Tips & Substitutions

For added flavor, consider mixing in some Worcestershire sauce or your favorite spices like garlic powder or Italian seasoning. If you want a healthier option, substitute half of the ground beef with lentils. Using quick oats instead of rolled oats can also work, but the texture may be slightly different. Remember to check the meatloaf for doneness using a meat thermometer; it should reach 160°F.

Serving Suggestions

Serve this meatloaf with a side of mashed potatoes or green beans for a classic meal. It also pairs beautifully with a fresh salad or roasted vegetables. For something different, try it in a sandwich with your favorite condiments. If you have leftovers, they can easily be transformed into a meatloaf sandwich or served alongside Easy Crock-Pot Beef Stew for a comforting meal.

Storage & Reheating

After the meatloaf cools, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil, or store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. To reheat, slice the meatloaf and place it in a baking dish covered with foil. Heat in a 350°F oven for about 20-25 minutes until warmed through. Alternatively, you can microwave individual slices.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I freeze the meatloaf before baking?

Yes, you can freeze the unbaked meatloaf. Just make sure it's tightly sealed in the Ziploc bag. When ready to bake, thaw it in the refrigerator overnight and then cook as directed. This is a great time-saver for busy days.

What can I use instead of ground turkey?

If you prefer, you can substitute ground turkey with ground chicken or even a plant-based meat alternative for a vegetarian option. Just ensure that the texture and moisture levels are similar, adjusting the oatmeal if necessary.

How do I know when the meatloaf is done?

The best way to check for doneness is to use a meat thermometer. Insert it into the center of the meatloaf; it should read 160°F. If you don't have a thermometer, you can also cut into the center to ensure there is no pink meat remaining.
