Ingredients

  • 1 medium head lettuce, shredded
  • 1 (8 oz.) can water chestnuts, sliced
  • 1 box frozen green sweet peas
  • 2 c. mayonnaise
  • 1 c. onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 c. celery, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium bell pepper, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Layer all ingredients in a large casserole that can be covered tightly.
  2. Spread or pat mayonnaise smoothly on top after all layers are laid.
  3. Mix 1 teaspoon sugar, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper.
  4. Sprinkle the mixture over the mayonnaise.
  5. Top with a mixture of mayonnaise and cheese.
  6. Cover tightly and refrigerate for at least 12 hours.
  7. Slice to serve.
