Ingredients

  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1 c. water
  • 1/2 c. salad oil
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 3/4 c. flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. ground allspice
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1/2 c. chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. Bring the raisins and water to a boil in a saucepan.
  2. Turn off the heat and stir in the salad oil; let cool to lukewarm.
  3. Stir in the sugar and the beaten egg.
  4. Sift together the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and ground cloves.
  5. Beat the dry ingredients into the raisin mixture.
  6. Stir in the chopped walnuts.
  7. Pour the batter into a greased baking pan.
  8. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20 minutes.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar while still warm.
