Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, you can substitute butter for margarine, and if you want a nuttier taste, try using almond flour in place of some of the all-purpose flour. To make the dough easier to handle, refrigerate it for 30 minutes before shaping. If you don't have almond extract, vanilla extract can be a good substitute, though the flavor will differ slightly.

Serving Suggestions

Serve almond strips as a delightful afternoon treat with tea or coffee. They pair beautifully with the rich flavors of No-Bake Chocolate Truffle Caramel Pie. For an extra touch, drizzle some chocolate sauce over the top or serve with fresh fruit for a refreshing contrast. These cookies also make a lovely addition to a dessert platter.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftover almond strips in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. To keep them fresh, you can also freeze the cookies for up to three months. To enjoy them again, simply thaw at room temperature or warm them briefly in the oven at 300°F (150°C) for a few minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use different nuts instead of almonds?

Yes, you can easily substitute the sliced almonds with other nuts like pecans or walnuts if you prefer. Just make sure to chop them coarsely to maintain texture. Keep in mind that using different nuts will alter the flavor profile, but it can be a delicious variation.

What can I use instead of powdered sugar for icing?

If you don't have powdered sugar on hand, you can make a simple glaze using granulated sugar by blending it until it becomes a fine powder. Alternatively, you can use honey or maple syrup for a natural sweetener, though it will result in a different consistency.

How can I add more flavor to the cookies?

To enhance the flavor of the cookies, consider adding a pinch of salt to the dough or incorporating citrus zest, such as lemon or orange, which complements the almond extract beautifully. You could also experiment with spices like cinnamon or nutmeg for a warming twist.
