Ingredients

  • 8 slices white bread
  • 1/4 c. soft butter
  • 6 tart apples, sliced thin
  • grated rind and juice of 1 lemon
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. white sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 c. raisins
  • 1/2 c. cream
  • 1/2 c. pecan halves

Instructions

  1. Spread bread on both sides with butter. Cut into 1/2-inch cubes.
  2. Place half the cubes in a buttered shallow baking dish.
  3. Mix apples, lemon juice and rind, both sugars, cinnamon, and raisins.
  4. Spoon the apple mixture over the bread and top with remaining bread cubes.
  5. Pour cream over the bread.
  6. Bake at 350° for 20 minutes.
  7. Sprinkle on pecan halves and return to oven for 10 minutes.
  8. Serve in a sauce dish with cream.
