A rich, buttery caramel popcorn treat with deep brown sugar flavor, perfect for sharing at parties or as a sweet snack for family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 5 or 6 qt. popped popcorn
  • 2 c. dark brown sugar
  • 2 sticks margarine or butter
  • 1/2 c. light corn syrup
  • 2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 250°F (120°C).
  2. Bring all ingredients except popped popcorn and soda to a boil, stirring constantly.
  3. Boil without stirring for 5 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and carefully add soda.
  5. Pour the caramel mixture over the popped popcorn.
  6. Place in the oven and bake for 1 hour, stirring every 10 to 15 minutes.
  7. Remove from oven and cool before breaking into pieces.
