  • 1 (16 oz.) can crabmeat
  • 1 tsp. mustard
  • 1 egg
  • 3 slices bread, wet

  2. Squeeze water out of bread slices and tear into small pieces.
  3. Mix crabmeat, mustard, egg, and bread pieces in a bowl.
  4. Add the cooled margarine mixture to the crab mixture and combine well.
  5. Form the mixture into patties.
  6. Fry the patties in oil or margarine until browned on both sides.

Tips & Substitutions

To enhance the flavor, consider adding a teaspoon of Old Bay seasoning or a dash of Worcestershire sauce to the crab mixture. If you don't have margarine, butter can be a great substitute. For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free bread. Ensure the crabmeat is well-drained to avoid a watery mixture, which can affect the texture of the crab cakes.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the crab cakes with a dollop of tartar sauce or aioli for added flavor. They pair beautifully with a fresh green salad or coleslaw. For more seafood inspiration, browse more American recipes that highlight crab, such as Me~Me'S Crab Dip or Marjorie Preston'S Crabmeat Casserole.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftover crab cakes in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place them in a skillet over medium heat for about 3-4 minutes on each side until heated through and crispy. You can also reheat them in an oven at 350°F for about 10-15 minutes for even heating.
