Ingredients

  • 4 oz. semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1/4 c. butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 c. finely chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and line with wax paper, then grease the paper.
  3. In a 3-quart saucepan, over low heat, melt the semi-sweet chocolate and butter; remove from heat.
  4. Using a wooden spoon, beat in the eggs one at a time.
  5. Stir in sugar, milk, vanilla, and salt.
  6. Add the all-purpose flour and baking powder, stirring until smooth.
  7. Fold in the finely chopped pecans.
  8. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  9. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  10. Cool in the pans on wire racks for five minutes.
  11. Remove from pans and peel off the wax paper immediately.
  12. Cool completely on wire racks before serving.
