- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and line with wax paper, then grease the paper.
- In a 3-quart saucepan, over low heat, melt the semi-sweet chocolate and butter; remove from heat.
- Using a wooden spoon, beat in the eggs one at a time.
- Stir in sugar, milk, vanilla, and salt.
- Add the all-purpose flour and baking powder, stirring until smooth.
- Fold in the finely chopped pecans.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool in the pans on wire racks for five minutes.
- Remove from pans and peel off the wax paper immediately.
- Cool completely on wire racks before serving.
