Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Mix together the milk, sugar, flour, baking powder, chopped dates, salt, and chopped nuts.
  2. Spread the mixture into an 8x8-inch pan.
  3. Bring 2 cups of water to a boil and mix with 1 1/2 cups of firmly packed brown sugar.
  4. Pour the boiling water and brown sugar mixture over the batter.
  5. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes.
  6. Serve plain or with whipped cream.
