Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup low sodium chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup evaporated skimmed milk
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 whole clove
  • 1 small white onion
  • 1 small bay leaf
  • scant pinch of nutmeg
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, whisk together chicken broth, evaporated skimmed milk, and flour.
  2. Insert the clove into the peeled small white onion; add it along with the bay leaf, nutmeg, salt, and pepper to the saucepan.
  3. Bring the mixture just below boiling over medium heat, stirring constantly.
  4. Lower the heat to simmer and cook, stirring frequently, for 10 minutes.
  5. Remove the onion and bay leaf with a slotted spoon before serving.
