Ingredients

  • 2 cups light brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup Crisco
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 1/2 eggs (about 3 small or 2 jumbo eggs)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 360°F (182°C).
  2. Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon together and set aside.
  3. Cream together the Crisco and light brown sugar until well blended.
  4. Add molasses, eggs, and vanilla extract; mix well.
  5. Gradually mix in the sifted dry ingredients until combined.
  6. Fold in raisins and chopped walnuts.
  7. Shape the dough into flattened logs (about 2 per cookie sheet).
  8. Bake for 5 to 8 minutes until lightly golden.
  9. Remove from oven and cool slightly.
  10. Cut each log into bars with a pizza wheel or knife.
