Ingredients

  • 2 lb. sirloin steak
  • 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 2 Tbsp. instant onion or 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 (4 oz.) can sliced mushrooms (undrained)
  • 2 tsp. instant bouillon or 2 beef bouillon cubes
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • dash of pepper
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Cut the sirloin steak into strips.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Brown the steak strips in the oil.
  4. Add chopped onion or instant onion and garlic powder; cook until onion is tender.
  5. Pour in soy sauce, add beef bouillon, sliced mushrooms with their liquid, and 2 cups of water.
  6. Cover and simmer until the meat is tender, approximately 40 minutes.
  7. In a separate bowl, combine remaining water and cornstarch to make a slurry.
  8. Add the cornstarch mixture to the meat and mushroom sauce, stirring until thickened.
  9. Serve hot over rice or noodles.
