- Heat butter in a pan and sauté mushrooms until light brown. Strain out mushrooms and set aside.
- Heat the cooking liquid; add flour and cook until thickened.
- Gradually stir in beef broth until blended.
- Add onion, bay leaves, basil, salt, and pepper.
- Cook until the mixture is thickened.
- Reduce heat and add half and half.
- Cook on low for 15 minutes.
- Strain the soup.
- Add the cooked mushrooms back to the broth.
- Heat the soup and serve.
