Ingredients

  • 2 large Bermuda onions
  • 4 slices stale white bread (no crust)
  • 3/4 cup grated Cheddar cheese
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

Instructions

  1. Parboil the sliced Bermuda onions for 10 minutes.
  2. Layer the parboiled onions, cubed stale white bread, and grated Cheddar cheese in a buttered casserole dish.
  3. Combine milk, eggs, salt, and pepper; pour the mixture over the layered ingredients.
  4. Dot the top with small pieces of butter.
  5. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 40 minutes until golden and bubbly.
