Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon nutmeg
  • 3/4 cup Wesson oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup sour milk or buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

Instructions

  1. Mix the flour, brown sugar, white sugar, salt, nutmeg, and Wesson oil well and take out 3/4 cup of the mixture to reserve for the topping.
  2. To the remaining mixture, add the egg, sour milk or buttermilk, soda, and baking powder. Mix well until all lumps are dissolved.
  3. Spread the batter in a fairly shallow, greased and floured pan.
  4. Sprinkle the reserved topping over the batter, then add cinnamon and chopped nuts on top.
  5. Bake at 375°F for 30 minutes.
