Ingredients

  • 6 (1 oz.) squares semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/4 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons chopped nuts or almonds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Melt the semi-sweet chocolate in the top of a double boiler over hot water.
  2. Combine butter and powdered sugar in a mixing bowl and beat well until smooth and creamy.
  3. Beat egg yolks in the mixture, one at a time, stirring constantly.
  4. Stir in melted chocolate, vanilla extract, and chopped nuts if using.
  5. Chill the mixture until it is fairly thick but not yet set.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of the mixture into small paper cups or spread on a baking sheet lined with waxed paper.
  7. Refrigerate until the candies are set.
  8. Cut into bite-sized pieces on the baking sheet.
