Ingredients

  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 1 c. corn oil
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 level tsp. soda
  • 1/8 c. hot water
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 c. boiling water

Instructions

  1. Combine the cloves, ginger, cinnamon, molasses, corn oil, sugar, and beaten eggs; set aside.
  2. Dissolve the soda in 1/8 cup hot water.
  3. Add the dissolved soda to the mixture from step 1.
  4. Sift in the flour and beat well until smooth.
  5. Add the boiling water and mix thoroughly.
  6. Pour the batter quickly into a greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 to 50 minutes.
