Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 stick butter
  • 3 1/2 Tbsp cocoa
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp soda
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions

  1. Place flour and sugar in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Place butter, cocoa, oil, and water in a 2-quart saucepan and bring to a boil.
  3. Pour the hot liquid over the dry ingredients and mix well.
  4. Add buttermilk, eggs, soda, and vanilla, then mix thoroughly.
  5. Pour batter into an 11 x 16-inch pan.
  6. Bake in an oven preheated to 400°F for 20 minutes.
  7. Begin preparing the icing five minutes before the cake is done.
