Ingredients

  • 2‑inch strips of thin round steak
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste
  • 1 medium sliced onion
  • bacon
  • flour

Instructions

  1. Cut the round steak into 2‑inch strips.
  2. Season each strip with salt and pepper.
  3. Place a small piece of bacon and a slice of onion on each strip.
  4. Roll up the strip and secure with a toothpick.
  5. Lightly coat the rolls with flour and brown them quickly in hot grease (shortening or drippings).
  6. Transfer the browned rolls to a pot and add ½ cup water.
  7. Cover and simmer for about 2 hours until the meat is tender.
  8. Remove the meat from the pan and use the drippings to make a simple gravy.
