Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 large garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 (12 oz.) bottle chili sauce
  • 3/4 c. beer
  • 1/4 c. unsulfured (light) molasses
  • 3 Tbsp. cider vinegar
  • 3 Tbsp. bourbon whiskey
  • 1 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. hot pepper sauce

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add finely chopped onion and minced garlic; sauté until tender, about 8 minutes.
  3. Reduce heat and add chili sauce, beer, molasses, cider vinegar, bourbon whiskey, and Worcestershire sauce.
  4. Simmer until the mixture reduces to about 2 cups, stirring occasionally, approximately 25 minutes.
  5. Stir in hot pepper sauce.
  6. Use to brush on during the last 10 minutes of grilling.
  7. For ribs, brush them often during the first part of cooking with a mixture of one part cider vinegar to 10 parts water and a pinch of dried crushed red pepper to keep them moist.
