Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different type of meat for this recipe?

Absolutely! You can substitute the ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version. If you're feeling adventurous, try using venison for a unique twist. Just ensure that any substitutions are seasoned well to maintain the dish's flavor profile.

How do I know when the dish is fully cooked?

The casserole is done when it's heated through and the top is golden brown. You can use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature, which should reach at least 160°F for ground meat. Allow it to rest for a few minutes before serving to let the juices redistribute.

Can I make this dish ahead of time?

Yes, you can assemble the casserole a day in advance. Just cover it tightly and store it in the refrigerator. When ready to bake, let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before placing it in the oven to ensure even cooking.
