Ingredients

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup shortening or butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 small bottle cherries
  • 1 cup liquid (juice of cherries plus milk to fill cup)
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup walnut meats

Instructions

  1. Mix the ingredients in the order listed and let stand for 2 minutes.
  2. Bake in a 350°F oven for 1 hour.
  3. Allow to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
