Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (105 to 115 F)
  • 1 1/2 cups Nabisco 100% bran
  • 2 1/2 to 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 teaspoons coarse salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425° F.
  2. Grease a cookie sheet.
  3. In a large bowl, combine yeast and warm water; stir until dissolved.
  4. Add bran; let stand for 5 minutes to soften.
  5. In a medium bowl, combine 2 1/2 cups flour, sugar, and salt.
  6. Using a wooden spoon, stir into bran mixture until well combined.
  7. Gradually add remaining flour if dough is too sticky to handle.
  8. Place on a floured board; knead until smooth, about 1 to 2 minutes.
  9. Cover with a towel and let stand for 5 to 10 minutes.
  10. Divide dough into 12 pieces; roll each into 13-inch ropes.
  11. Form each piece into a pretzel shape.
  12. Place pretzels on the prepared cookie sheet.
  13. Brush lightly with beaten egg.
  14. Sprinkle with coarse salt.
  15. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
