Ingredients

  • 4 cups bread or cake crumbs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup chopped toasted blanched almonds

Instructions

  1. Soak bread or cake crumbs in 1 cup of milk; squeeze dry.
  2. To the soaked crumbs, add the remaining 1 cup of milk, beaten eggs, melted butter, sugar, salt, nutmeg, and almond extract. Mix thoroughly.
  3. Stir in raisins and chopped toasted almonds.
  4. Pour the mixture into a greased 9 x 5 x 2-inch loaf pan or a 9-inch tube angel food cake pan.
  5. Bake in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 1 hour.
  6. Slice and serve warm, optionally with whipped cream.
