Ingredients

  • 4 cups sifted flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 4 cups coarsely shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon dill weed
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups milk

Instructions

  1. Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Cut butter into dry ingredients until crumbly, about the texture of uncooked oatmeal.
  3. Stir in shredded cheese and dill weed.
  4. Combine eggs and milk.
  5. Add egg and milk mixture to dry ingredients, stirring just enough to moisten the batter.
  6. Divide the batter among 4 well-greased pans.
  7. Bake in a hot (400°F) oven for 35 to 40 minutes, until loaves are nicely browned and sound hollow when thumped.
  8. Slice approximately 1/2-inch thick and serve.
