Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 Tbsp chili powder
  • 1 1/2 medium onions, chopped
  • 1 2/3 cups tomato puree
  • 1 tsp garlic
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 lb pinto beans

Instructions

  1. Cook the pinto beans in 3 quarts of water or more if needed until nearly tender.
  2. When the beans are nearly done, add 2 tablespoons chili powder and 1 1/2 teaspoons salt.
  3. While the beans are cooking, combine ground beef, chopped onions, and garlic; brown in a skillet on the stove or in a 350°F oven, stirring frequently until cooked through.
  4. Add tomato puree, 1 tablespoon chili powder, 1 tablespoon salt, and bread crumbs to the meat mixture; simmer for 15 minutes.
  5. Combine the meat mixture with the cooked beans.
  6. Adjust the thickness with additional water or seasonings with more chili powder as desired.
