Ingredients

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup butter or oleo
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 2 cups flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and brown sugar together; add the beaten egg.
  2. Mix in the dry ingredients: flour, soda, and cream of tartar.
  3. Stir in chopped nuts and vanilla extract.
  4. Form the dough into rolls, chill until firm, then slice into cookies.
  5. Bake slices at 325°F until golden brown.
  6. Alternatively, drop spoonfuls of dough onto a greased cookie sheet and bake as dropped cookies.
