Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, consider adding Italian herbs like oregano and basil. If you prefer a vegetarian version, substitute the meat with lentils or mushrooms. You can also use crushed tomatoes instead of diced for a smoother sauce. For a bit of heat, add red pepper flakes. This sauce pairs beautifully with Italian recipes like Heart Attack Lasagne.

Serving Suggestions

Serve this hearty spaghetti sauce over your favorite pasta, garnished with freshly grated Parmesan cheese. It pairs wonderfully with garlic bread and a side salad for a complete meal. For a twist, try it with Austrian Ravioli for a unique fusion experience!

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftover spaghetti sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. To freeze, allow it to cool completely, then transfer to freezer-safe containers, where it can last for up to 3 months. Reheat on the stove over low heat or in the microwave, stirring occasionally until heated through.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use different types of meat in this sauce?

Absolutely! You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option. If you prefer a vegetarian sauce, consider using a mix of mushrooms, lentils, or even textured vegetable protein to maintain a hearty texture.

How can I make the sauce thicker?

To thicken the sauce, allow it to simmer uncovered for a longer period, which will reduce the liquid. Alternatively, you can add a tablespoon of cornstarch mixed with water to help thicken it quickly. Adjust the seasoning as needed after thickening.

What can I do with leftovers?

Leftover spaghetti sauce can be repurposed in various ways. Use it as a base for a delicious pizza or in a layered casserole. It’s also great for dipping breadsticks or as a sauce for baked stuffed peppers, making it a versatile addition to your meals.
