Bulgar-Rice Pilaf

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup bulgar wheat
  • 1/2 cup brown rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 bouillon cube (beef or chicken)
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped celery
  • 1/4 cup chopped mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup frozen peas
  • 1/4 teaspoon basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon marjoram
  • dash of pepper

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, bring water to a boil and add the bouillon cube to dissolve.
  2. Add the bulgur wheat, rice, chopped onion, celery, and mushrooms to the boiling water.
  3. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 20 minutes until grains are tender and water is absorbed.
  4. Stir in frozen peas, basil, marjoram, and pepper.
  5. Cook for an additional 5 minutes until peas are heated through.
  6. Fluff with a fork and serve hot.
