Ingredients

  • 1 head cabbage, sliced thin
  • 1 onion, sliced or chopped
  • 1 green pepper, chopped
  • 1 red pepper, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp. turmeric
  • 1 tsp. mustard seed
  • 1 tsp. celery seed
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1.5 cups vinegar
  • 5 onions
  • 5 onions

Instructions

  1. Boil the vinegar, turmeric, mustard seed, celery seed, salt, and sugar together.
  2. Pour the hot mixture over the sliced cabbage, onions, and peppers.
  3. Allow the mixture to cool.
  4. Transfer the cooled mixture into a crock or jar.
  5. Store in the refrigerator or a cool place.
  6. The kraut will last indefinitely.
