Ingredients

  • 1 large head green cabbage (about 2 lb.)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 small green pepper, chopped (about 1/2 cup)
  • 3 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Cut the cabbage into 12 wedges.
  2. In a 10-inch skillet, bring water and salt to a boil.
  3. Add the cabbage wedges to the boiling water.
  4. Heat to boiling, then reduce heat to simmer.
  5. Cover and cook until the cabbage is crisp-tender, about 10 to 15 minutes.
  6. Drain the cabbage and set aside.
  7. In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  8. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
  9. Gradually whisk in the milk, onion salt, and pepper.
  10. Cook until the sauce thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
  11. Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese.
  12. Pour the pepper sauce over the cooked cabbage wedges before serving.
