Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups flour, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon cloves
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 cup liquid from cooked prunes
  • 1 cup cooked prunes
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening; add sugar, then eggs one at a time, and beat thoroughly.
  2. Sift together all dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, salt, soda, nutmeg, cloves, and cinnamon.
  3. Blend the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture alternately with the prune liquid.
  4. Add vanilla, cooked prunes, and nuts to the batter.
  5. Spread the batter in a greased 13 x 9 x 2 1/2-inch pan.
  6. Bake in a 350°F (175°C) oven until tests done, approximately 40 minutes.
