Caramel Apple Bars

- Heat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Lightly grease a 9-inch square baking pan.
- In a medium bowl, combine 1 cup all-purpose flour and 1/4 cup brown sugar.
- Cut in 1/2 cup butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Transfer mixture to the prepared pan and press evenly into the bottom.
- Bake for 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, in a bowl, toss chopped apples with beaten eggs, vanilla extract, and chopped walnuts or pecans.
- Spread the apple mixture over the baked crust.
- Place caramel candies on top of the apple layer and bake until caramel is melted and bubbly, about 10-15 minutes.
- Allow to cool slightly before cutting into squares and serving.
